The Selection Committee for Horse Breeding of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Slovak Republic (hereinafter referred to as "MPRV SR") on 11-12 October in 2023 carried out the autumn assessment of horses in the National Stud "Topoľčianky" š.p. 8 Lipizzaner foals, 43 breeding Lipizzaner mares, 6 shagya - arab foals, 35 breeding shagya - arab mares, 6 foals of the Hucul horse, 31 breeding mares of the Hucul horse, 1 breeding stallion in the breeding of the Slovak Warmblood breed, 25 breeding mares of the Slovak Warmblood breed, 3 English thoroughbred mares, 2 breeding stallions of Arabian thoroughbred, 5 mares of Arabian thoroughbred, young horses of all breeds up to 3 years of age, 40 horses in basic training, 33 sport horses and 5 racing horses owned by the National Stud Farm Topoľčianky  were inspected.

The commission positively assessed the readiness of all buildings and horses for the autumn assessment. All breeding objects and the surrounding environment were decently prepared. The commission positively evaluates the good condition, nutrition and health of the horses, as well as corrections, hoof trimming and the overall appearance of the horses being shown, as well as the current state of reproductive indicators in all herds. A total of 83 breeding mares are in foal and 19 mares need to confirm the gravidity. The gravidity rate for all-area insemination is 74.77% so far. The commission found regular compliance with vaccinations, deworming and legally mandated examinations for equine infectious anaemia.

The Commission positively evaluates the inclusion of the breeding stallion Davos and his purchase for the National Stud in view of his balanced progeny with very good movement mechanics. The commission states that the stallion Davos has followed up very well with the domestic herd of mares of the Slovak warmblood breed. The Commission also commented positively on the intention of including young stallions of the Slovak Warmblood breed in breeding training.

The commission positively evaluates the purchase of 4 pure-blood Egyptian Arabian thoroughbred mares to expand the blood base within the breeding of the Arabian thoroughbred breed with bilateral Egyptian origin.

The benefit will also be the exchange of 2 elite Lipizzan mares from the Piber State Stud for 2 elite mares from the Spadiglia family from NZ in order to expand the base of the Europa family in the base herd of Lipizzan mares.

The Commission expressed appreciation to the National Stud for:

  • exemplary representation of Slovakia at international sports and breeding events, as well as wide testing of horses in almost all branches of equestrian sports,
  • publication of the Breeding Stallion Catalogue 2023 with the promotion of the Insemination and Reproduction Centre of the NŽ and breeding stallions under the jurisdiction of the NŽ, for which it maintains a stud book in Slovakia,
